Birth Control Pills
EVERYTHING YOU WANTED ABOUT BIRTH CONTROL PILLS
Birth control pills, or in other words “oral contraceptives” (OCS), are hormone-containing drugs intended to prevent pregnancy.
They prevent pregnancy by stopping ovulation and preventing sperm from passing from the cervix to the uterus.
OCSs contain the female hormones estrogen and progesterone.
Birth control pill boxes usually contain 21 pills, although occasionally they contain 28 pills. The box should be started within the first 2-3 days of the menstrual period and one box should be taken at the same time every day and continued until the box is finished. You will start bleeding after the box is finished, or sometimes close to the end. After the box is finished, a 7-day break is taken, and a new box is started after 7 days, even if your bleeding continues to be minimal.
This system should be continued without breaking it: 21 days on pills, 7 days off!
Your menstrual bleeding may often be less than normal as a natural effect of OCSs, do not worry.
It contains 28 tablets of some birth control pills, and is also included in the box on the 2nd-3rd day of menstruation. After the box is finished, the next box is started without any breaks. The expected bleeding will occur while using the last pills of the box.
Concomitant use of OKS and some drugs may cause the effectiveness of OKS to decrease. Unwanted pregnancies may occur. Please share this with your doctor.
Your fertility returns immediately after stopping OCS.
Nausea, breakthrough bleeding, headache, decreased sexual desire, breast tenderness, and mood changes may occur as undesirable side effects; these conditions usually resolve within a few months.
